What a great turn of events. I woke up with very little on my agenda (read: day off) and wanted to spoil myself for breakfast. I didn't want to travel far but I was craving Ethiopian and a little Yemeni food because I had seen some delicious photos. Long story short one place was too far, the other was going to open an hour later and there was Queen of Sheeba.
So off I trudge, kicking myself for waiting so late. The place is nothing to wow you. It's just a down home Store front with about 10 or so tables. I walked in and the guy greeted me with a thick accent and good vibes. I perused the menú and picked the stewed lamb. He describes the dish after asking me if I've had it before. I felt like I was hanging out with one of my uncles.
He went off to prepare everything and I got to look the place over. This is the way to fall in love: unassuming, friendly vibes, no pretense, authentic. The decor is very "homey" and filled with references to Yemen.
He gave me some tasty soup, the best tea I've had in a while, salad and the entree. The lamb was tasty, tender, and delicious. Speaking of delicious, that Sauce on the side? Swoon.
I could have leftovers for days. Although, I ate so much it won't be as balanced, Im guessing. Is the second date as magical as the first?
Guess time will tell. -

We ordered from Queen Sheeba three days ago. Lamb liver and Saltah
I am not Yemeni but that was definitely Saltah. I dined in several Yemeni restaurants here and in my country and the recipe just did not match. Both dishes were bland and needed seasoning. The hummus was tasteless.
The only good part of the meal was the tea. It was delicious. -

Be ready to eat. It's a lot of food for $12. The sauce in the rice was great. Good hearty food. I'll be back

Annoyed. Everything about this place says it is open until 10pm, I went at 830pm and the place was closed. Dunno if i even want to try a place that closes earlier than its listed time.

A block and a half and a world away from Manhattanville Coffee you'll find Queen Sheeba. It's a small, unassuming restaurant -- almost blending into the quiet street. There's no frills on the inside either, simple decor and on a weekday afternoon we were the only non-Yemenis in the establishment.
The food is absolutely delicious - fresh, well-spiced, and affordable! Don't miss the shorba (Yemeni bulgur/lentil soup), the sweet tea, and the kofte kebab.
